Main sail boats heading for success

The Hanse Sail in Rostock (Hanseatic sailing event) resumes the brilliant days of the past. The home port of the biggest fleet of the Baltic Sea was here at the end of the 19 th century. 370 ships sailed under the Rostock flag at that time. Everything equipped with sails arrives at Rostock Hanseatic City once a year now on the occasion of the world’s greatest windjammer meeting. During a beauty parade on the Baltic Sea ships of all categories and from the four corners of the world offer the more than a million spectators a rare as well as beautiful sight.

However, at the Rostock and Warnemünde quay walls you cannot just experience seafarer romanticism these days, but also the biggest party in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with plenty of entertainment from rock music to classical music, with international culture at its best, with commotion, fair and fireworks and disco fun. If this should not be sufficient for anyone they might sign on with one of the ships. Fellow passengers willing to lend a hand and paying an extra, too, are always welcome no matter whether it is in the rigging, in the galley or at the helm.

The numerous port and sailing days along the coast and in the inland ports turn out a bit more modest but not with less atmosphere. For the second time Müritz Sail invites skippers and spectators to a further maritime event on Germany ’s largest lake.

In 2011 as well, more than 240 tall ships, traditional sailing ships and museum sailing ships are expected in Rostock Harbour and in Warnemünde Baltic Seaside Resort.
