Starting point: Hanseatic town of Rostock
1.
The Hanseatic town of Rostock – the
hometown of many emigrants and transit place on the way to
America, for example for Carl Schurz, minister of the interior
of the USA.
- Walk through the historic town center –
the former living areas of emigrants
- Presentation of documents and other materials
about the emigration from Rostock,
- particulary about the escape of Carl Schurz
from Prussia via Rostock to America in the year 1850

Drive on the highway to Alt Schwerin (near
Malchow) to the Museum of agricultural history
- Coming into contact with evidences and written
reports about life in the country of Mecklenburg in the19th
and first half of 20th centuries, particularly in an estate
village

Through the former knight’s region of the district of
Güstrow into the former residence town
of the duke – the town of Güstrow;
- A trip through the town of Güstrow,
among other things a visit of the cathedral with the figure
„Floating angel“ created by the famous artist
Ernst Barlach
- Having a look at the castle of Güstrow
– today a museum, but in the 19th century an work
house for agricultural workers; presentation of documents
and contemporary reports about emigration in the 19th century
